The Baseball Encyclopedia…simply the best!

I had a copy of The Baseball Encyclopedia several years ago but lost it in a move. I was able to find a great used copy through Amazon and added it back to my collection. Simply stated, if you are into baseball history and statistics this book needs to be in your collection. More than 3,000 pages of award winners, all-time leaders, lifetime major league rosters, manager stats, player stats, trades, Negro League information, World Series, All-Star Game, and All-American Girls Professional Baseball League stats. I use this for personal reference, winning arguments, and looking up the careers of the players my dad told me about for so many years. Enough already…buy this book.

This is a seriously big and heavy book. As a kid, I remember poring over it in the library, in the reference section, imagining how it would be to have all this baseball knowledge to myself, in the privacy of my room. Now I have it. You can, of course, get this stuff of the net, but it's cheap used and hey, if it checks off one of those life-boxes, then I guess it's worth it. A beautiful volume.

This item is regularly over $100 I think I paid $10 with shipping. It was in outstanding condition. Slightly used but I would have never known the difference had I not purchased it for myself. It cane on time and I could not be any happier.....imagine that it came on time and in the condition they said it was going to be in. I'm very impressed.

Sylvie Simmons follows the life of Leonard Cohen as she delivers a remarkable account of one extraordinary life. A famous poet, a great artist in music, his personal life, and much more. Cohen's goals and achievements are noted as well as his success in music and poetry. The author includes interviews from the people who were closest to Cohen from the start of his career, following his accomplishments. This insightful, brilliant story reflects on his dreams, his motivation, and his persistence to perform well. Simmons tracks his footsteps from the young man who just started his life to one of the most important artists in the world. An inspiring and enjoyable portrait of a famous artist that grabs the reader's attention in the first chapter. Highly Recommended to music and poetry lovers!

A definitive Cohen biography

Recent years have seen a number of attempts to produce Cohen biographies for an intelligent reading public, to follow up Ira Nadel's excellent but necessarily incomplete work of almost two decades ago. This one succeeds definitively. Simmons has done it with restrained, professional writing, deep research, and access to key players including Cohen himself. Some of the details are well known at this point, but even those are intriguing in the re-telling. A fresh perspective and a mature pen--not to mention the engaging narrative of the life of a beloved, humanly flawed, immensely appealing protagonist--make this the Cohen biography we have been waiting for.

Simply put, the finest biography of Leonard Cohen ever writ. Simmons (no relation to moi) covers the waterfront, spending equal time on Cohen's music and literary work, as well as the chronology of his life. The personal anecdotes are numerous and revealing, from teenaged Leonard hypnotizing the clothes off the family maid, to jamming on "Suzanne" with Jimi Hendrix, to his many love affairs. The writing is smart, sharp, funny. By book's end, I was left wanting more.

Endocrine "Secrets"

Overall this is a useful book to provide a rapid overview about practical aspects of general endocrinology. It is a great starting point for internal medicine residents and fellows. "Secrets" may not be the right word: it is a good overview of essential practical knowledge about pathophysiology, diagnostic approaches and therapeutic modalities.
The chapters are somewhat uneven in terms of depth: some are quite detailed (e.g. diabetes in pregnancy), others would warrant slightly more detail and updating (as well as elimination of mostly minor errors that could probably be easily be eliminated by a reading by peers).
While this has nothing to do with the content, one very weak point is the size of the print, which is way too small! Many will need a magnifying glass to read the text. The publisher would be well advised to fix this - otherwise it is not worth buying future versions of this book or other "secrets".

I chose this rating because it's a very practical book and updated. It has very concise summaries of the different endocrine pathologies , it is very easy to read with the main questions we want to be answered. It is not a book to go deeper into a subject but that is not the objective of the book. I really recomend it.

Great for single dads

As a single father of 2 young girls, this book is pure gold. I purchased this book as a gift for my girls, but I read it and use it all the time-not on my hair. Shows easy styles and has hair health tips also. I think I could soon braid Willy Nelsons hair.

poor instructions, dated styles

I bought this for my eleven year old and she hasn't picked it up a second time. Most of the styles, in my opinion, are out of style.. like using a row of the one-inch butterfly clips to pin back hair in sections, mimicking a headband. I'm glad I didn't buy it new, or I'd regret this purchase even more.
