Myhra is a Rockefeller Foundation Fellow investigating the role of people and local communitites in energy project planning and decision-making. He is also a visiting lecturer in energy planning, Dept. of Urban and Regional Planning, George Washington University, Washington, D.C. Fantastic Studying Tool!

I am studying Occupational Therapy and have five books on anatomy (Netter's, Anatomy Coloring Book, etc). NONE has been as helpful as this one. In the previous books, all of the muscles are shown together, which makes identifying and remembering each muscle very difficult. In this book, each muscle is displayed individually, so you can see where they originate and insert, and understand how the muscles perform flexion, abduction, etc. They are grouped by region (lower extremity, head, trunk, etc), by function, and each illustration lists innervation, origin and insertion. Did I mention the bony landmark section and the nerve plexi illustrations?
I wish I had this book for my intro anatomy course, but thankfully a classmate introduced me to it...now Kinesiology has been a breeze!

By encouraging cohesion in a nation of diverse peoples and inspiring social reform, American patriotism has sometimes been a force for good. But the book also uncovers a darker side of the nation’s patriotism—a prejudice against the South in the nineteenth century, for example, and a tendency toward nativism and anti-Catholicism. Ironically, a great reversal has occurred, and today the most fervent believers in the Puritan narrative are the former “outsiders”—Catholics and Southerners. McKenna offers an interesting new perspective on patriotism’s role throughout American history, and he concludes with trenchant thoughts on its role in the post-9/11 era.

This Could Have Been a Much Better Book

I really wanted to give this impressive book by George McKenna a better rating. He is an expert on religion in American life and history. This is obvious. But way too often the author seems to let personal bias and political bugaboos get in the way of what could have been a great straight history.

First: the good parts. McKenna's retelling of early American politics and the role religion played is top notch. From the Anne Hutchinson trial to the role of religion in the pre-Civil Wart abolition movement and in the life of Abraham Lincoln were superb.

However, as the closer the author gets to the modern day the more he seems hell bound to interject politics into his telling of history. He goes on far too many tangents that don't seem germane to his history. The Hiss/Chambers account and the many political movements that sprung up in the 1960s and 70s top the list of rants that detract from the overall history.

A better editor with an ability to keep the author focused, and an author more interested in recounting history and leaving his personal bugaboos out would have made this much better that it currently is.

Aye, ye got to love those pirates....

This story centers around Lady Isabel Ashton and Captain Kent Carlton, both whom you met in The Reliance. Isabel has been shunned by her family because of her illegitimate son, Frederick. Kent has searched everywhere for Lady Ashton (the woman he could not forget). Finally he runs in to Richard Sawkins, a nobleman who tells him of Frederick existance. Frederick is then kidnapped and Isabel is beside herself. Kent shows up and vows to help her find her/their son. She is apprehensive about him helping but agrees feeling she has no other choice. Once aboard his ship she finds that he has made a big effort to see to her needs. Kent treats her with the upmost respect and kindness. Through the story you see both hearts changing. Can Isabel ever trust the pirate who ravished her and caused her to loose her title and wealth? Will Kent be willing to give up everything for Isabel and Frederick?

The story is a page-turner and will keep you up long into the night to find out what happens next. In the Reliance you saw a little change in Captain Carlton but... in the Restitution you see a change in Kent that makes him a worthy hero. I fell in love with him. You can feel the love he has for Lady Ashton and their son.

One thing I was hoping for was to see Merrick and Charlisse again but they were only mentioned in the beginning.

You could read this as a stand alone book but I would highly recommend you read the other two first for the complete story. The Redemption, The Reliance and The Restitution.

Great work MaryLu. I look forward to her next book The Falcon and the Sparrow due out Summer of 2008.

An Amazing Conclusion to an Amazing Series

Isabel and Kent are both characters that were introduced in the previous Legacy of the King’s Pirates books. Kent was always quite the scoundrel in the previous books but in The Restitution we find him very changed, and changing for the better! Isabel is haunted by her past. Having been ravished by a pirate and left with a child, Isabel is all but alone in the world. When her son is kidnapped, she must look to Kent, the father of the child, to help her retrieve her lost child.
This was probably my favorite of the three books. I loved the story of Merrick and Charlisse but I loved Kent and Isabel’s story just a little more. I loved that we could see the change over Kent throughout the series. I found myself being drawn to Kent, despite his past. This whole story was filled with unexpected twists and turns that you didn’t see coming. This book will bring you on an adventure that will keep you intrigued right up to the very end. It was a wonderful ending to the series and the only thing I’m disappointed with is the fact that the series is over.

Another for the can't put down list from Mary Lu Tyndall

I cannot believe Mary Lu got me to like Kent! I never thought that would be possible.

Lady Isabel Ashton is the main character in this one. You hear Merrick and Charlisse mentioned one time in the first few chapters of the book. But all that is said is they are living in North Carolina now. I was really upset at them not returning. I thought early on - I was not going to enjoy it as much for in the last book I was not fond of Isabel and Kent as characters.

So at first I started the book with a chip on my shoulder. But as soon as she got the story going I was hooked. Once again, Mary Lu wrote a book that I could not put down.

This book had two situations unfolding. The story of Kent and Isabel and one of Hann seeking revenge for his/her brother. What a suprise twist on that character.

If you read the first two, this is one you have to read. And it will not let you down.

The only thing that bothered me about these books were the cover art. All three girls looked different on the front. So if we assume the first book had Charlisse on it, and this last one Lady Isabel, which one was on the second cover? It did not resemble either of the others. And the guy on the second also did not fit with the other books. But that was about all I did not like about these three books.

Beautiful couture insight

This book is simply written but Dior gives us absolutely ALL insider info about what happens in his atelier during preparations for his new collection. It starts with his scetches and ends with front row seatting Schedule. I loved it! It really explains complicated Systems and rules of a couture house and is excellent source of information for Fashion lovers.

Great story

I'm just in the first 2 chapters, but I was hooked when I started the first sentence. Dior wasn't just one of the greatest designers
of all time, but he was also a very able writer. The story of his life as a designer is fascinating. I highly recommend this book if you
love Dior or if you're interested in the field of fashion design. It's excellent for fashion students as it gives a very clear idea of what
it takes to start a "house" and all the work that goes into it. All very exciting, of course.

An interesting book written by an adorable genius. I suggest reading this book prior to or concurrently with the "Dior and I" documentary. In the film, the narrator speaks in first-person as Dior, directly from the book, Raf Simons references the book and they visit Dior's childhood home. You'll get more out of the documentary when you understand Christian Dior, the man and the designer.
There are so many things I love about this book that I can't even think of what to say. He writes about the past and his present, and the reader is truly transported to those times in fashion history. Of course fashion fans will adore this book, but historians will also enjoy this read. I would imagine that a person who was alive when the "new look" came out in 1947 would especially enjoy this. Even my dad knows who Christian Dior is!

About the Author
Dr. Jerrold S. Greenberg is a Professor in the Department of Public and Community Health at the University of Maryland. Dr. Greenberg earned his baccalaureate and masters degrees from The City College of New York, and then continued his education at Syracuse University where he earned his doctorate. Dr. Greenberg has taught at Syracuse University, Boston University, and the State University of New York at Buffalo before accepting his current position at the University of Maryland in 1979. Dr. Greenberg has written over 50 books on such topics as elder care, health, stress management, physical fitness, sexuality, and methods of health education. In addition, he has published over 80 articles in professional journals and lay magazines. Among Dr. Greenberg's honors are included: the University of Maryland Service-Learning Advocate of Year Award for 2003-2004; the American School Health Association's Distinguished Service Award; selection as Alliance Scholar by the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance; the Presidential Citation, the Certificate of Appreciation, and the Scholar Award of the American Association for Health Education; selection for inclusion in Who's Who in America, Outstanding Young Men of America, and Who's Who in World Jewry. Dr. Greenberg has also served on the Editorial Boards of the professional journals, Health Education and The Journal of School Health; and as a reviewer for other professional journals. In addition, Dr. Greenberg has conducted stress management workshops for professional, business, and lay organizations throughout the United States.

Different and Better

I have reviewed, read and used practically hundreds of jazz methods and I can honestly say that NONE of them are like How to Improvise. Where other authors overly concern themselves with which scale to play on which chord or memorizing ii V I licks in every key, Crook teaches us how to play music.

Each chapter deals with a different musical aspect such as pacing, phrase lengths, time, dynamics and articulation. There's a text description of each topic followed by a comprehensive regime of exercises dealing specifically with that topic.

A lot of what's wrong with the jazz playing of young musicians could easily be fixed with this one book. I know it made a huge impact in my playing and my career. With Crook's book, I was able to take all of the technique I learned from other books and turn it into something people actually like to listen to. For that, I can't thank him enough.

Terrific Resource!

Hal Crook's "How to Improvise" is an absolutely indispensable resource for developing jazz vocabulary and improvisation. Although he presumes a certain amount of basic knowledge of jazz theory, Hal's jazz exercises are terrific and well organized. Learning how to improvise is often an overwhelming process, and beginning jazz players find it hard to take a structured approach to learning jazz. This is the best resource I have seen - it is comprehensive! Buy it now, don't wait 5 years (like I did) to save the $25 only to come back to it. Another jazz resource I would recommend is Jamey Abersold's "Turnarounds: Vol. 16," which is a great way to learn to improvise over chord changes in all keys.

poor online access but better than none..

relatively a small book for that price.. I was disappointed by the online access, old fashion looks like in the snapshot picture, non compatible with phones and tablets, needs flash player, some questions will keep coming, and some never come up.. however, I like that questions are related to clinical practice..

Excellent review book for the psychiatry boards, cert and re-cert, or for general review, covers psychopharm only. Questions are of a fairly high level of difficulty, answers provide adequate explanations, could be more extensive at times. Comes with online access to the electronic version, helpful for use on the tablet.

Nick Spalding is an author who, try as he might, can't seem to write anything serious. He's worked in the communications industry his entire life, mainly in media and marketing. Jamie and Laura, Part Deux

I loved the continuation of the Jamie and Laura saga, almost as much as I did the first book (Love... From Both Sides). In this segment, Jamie and Laura are married and suddenly find themselves to be expectant parents, as well.

While the humor and writing remain solid, and the dialogue still flows well, there are a couple of predictable parts. It should be said that not only did this not detract from my enjoyment of the book at all, and at the end I couldn't wait to purchase the newest book in the series, but also that the story matured pretty well along with its characters. Maybe Jamie still makes a few dopey mistakes, and maybe Laura is a bit harsh (and occasionally makes her own dopey mistakes), but I love the way the relationship, marriage and pregnancy all progress. I also appreciated the new character introductions, brief though they might have been, because they added to the story in a true-to-life fashion, and added to the fun of the book. Personally, I felt that the author did a good job keeping the journal and blog entries true to the characters who wrote them.

I think that this author has a real talent and look forward to reading more work by him.

(There are still adult situations and adult language, so buyer beware if you don't appreciate that type of story.)

Still Really Funny

This is the second book in the series, and also the second best. It's still very often hilarious- especially their midwife, Jamie's impression of Laura's pregnancy, and their hospital stay. Unfortunately, the second half of the book chronicles the first year of their daughter's life, which is fraught with marital problems for the once happy couple. I'm sure this is the norm for relationships that are under the stress of parenting, but I don't want to know that! I want them to still be happy! Therefore, this book gets 4 stars- still funny, but too much sad for 5 stars.

Tamer than the first book in the series.

Love From Both Sides was very graphic and a little tasteless, but oh so funny. I approached Love and Sleepless Nights with trepidation. This book is a continuation of the main characters in Both Sides, but it is not nearly as raunchy. There is still some graphic sex albeit with humor. This book seems to have more of a plot and not just humorous incidents.
Spoiler: the infant illness was especially touching and I felt very true to life.
The series seems to be maturing along with the characters.
